Agency Overview

Animal Welfare Alliance of Southeast Missouri is working to establish an independent, licensed no-kill shelter in Poplar Bluff, Butler County, to help save the lives of abandoned and unwanted animals in southeast Missouri. This shelter is desperately needed to save the lives of dogs and cats in southeast Missouri who are drowned, shot or dumped on the roadways each year.

In addition, AWA contributes financial aid to qualifying pet owners to help cover the cost to spay or neuter their dogs and cats. Since 2009, AWA has spent more than $85,000 in that effort. We also help selected pet owners with emergency vet bills and, in cooperation with the Poplar Bluff Animal Control staff, help provide vaccinations for puppies and kittens in the city's Animal Control shelter.

The Animal Welfare Alliance of Southeast Missouri is registered with state and federal authorities as a nonprofit organization under Section 501(c)3 of the U.S. tax code. Our purpose is to foster a spirit of cooperation among all public and private animal care organizations and agencies in the area, to encourage and support the adoption, neutering and spaying of pets and to seek shelter for abandoned animals.
