Agency Overview
Established in 1999 as a grassroots effort to provide summer childcare, About Our Kids (AOK) morphed into a non-profit dedicated to teaching lifelong skills to youth K-12.
Our facilities offer a drug-free, supervised, home-away-from-home for youth, with a kitchen, living areas, laundry facilities and a shower. For recreation there is a basketball court, playground area, exercise equipment, game bikes, a major sound system, video games, iPads, pool table, movies and more.
AOK’s programs are designed to meet the educational, emotional, physical and nutritional needs of children. Using a variety of approaches and curricula, our professional staff provides physical education and recreation opportunities, nutrition instruction, character education and development, sensory integration skills and activities and much more.
In 2016, AOK delivered:
- 250,000+ FREE meals and snacks to low-income youth
- 32,000 hours of skills training
- 124,800 hours of academic tutoring
- 24,960 hours of prevention education (violence, drug and risk behavior)

AOK is truly making a difference in the lives of the youth in Barton County. Our services go far beyond babysitting, adding youth development components to empower youth every day to make healthy decisions.
Fundraising efforts, grant writing and donor solicitation is ongoing. We thankful for each donation, large and small, as we continue to serve our area children and young adults.
Reaching and teaching our young people benefits the entire community. Our future is About Our Kids.
