Project Overview
About Our Project
The Animal Welfare Alliance of Southeast Missouri (AWA) has an opportunity to buy the Hillcrest Animal Hospital building in Poplar Bluff, MO. (The veterinarians are building a new facility nearby.) Acquiring Hillcrest would make our decade-long dream of opening a regional, no-kill animal shelter a reality.
Help Stop the Carnage!
AWA is located in a low-income region of the state. In our primary four-county service area there are only two small community pounds -- no Humane Society, no ASPCA, no independent no-kill shelters. You can help stop the dumping, drowning and shooting of unwanted dogs and cats. It's a quality-of-life issue for people as well as for animals.
Please Give as Much as You Can
We need many thousands of dollars. The Poplar Bluff-based Animal Welfare Alliance is a 501(c)3 nonprofit (EIN 94-3441448). All donations are tax deductible. Individual large donations can be held in escrow until our target is met. Visit AWA at www.awasemo.org or facebook.com/awasemo or call 573-718-2956.

About Animal Welfare Alliance of Southeast Missouri
Animal Welfare Alliance of Southeast Missouri is working to establish an independent, licensed no-kill shelter in Poplar Bluff, Butler County, to help save the lives of abandoned and unwanted animals in southeast Missouri. This shelter is desperately needed to save the lives of dogs and cats in southeast Missouri who are drowned, shot or dumped on the roadways each year.
In addition, AWA contributes financial aid to qualifying pet owners to help cover the cost to spay or neuter their dogs and cats. Since 2009, AWA has spent more than $85,000 in that effort. We also help selected pet owners with emergency vet bills and, in cooperation with the Poplar Bluff Animal Control staff, help provide vaccinations for puppies and kittens in the city's Animal Control shelter.
The Animal Welfare Alliance of Southeast Missouri is registered with state and federal authorities as a nonprofit organization under Section 501(c)3 of the U.S. tax code. Our purpose is to foster a spirit of cooperation among all public and private animal care organizations and agencies in the area, to encourage and support the adoption, neutering and spaying of pets and to seek shelter for abandoned animals.
