Project Overview
Fort Leonard Wood typically stands down for two weeks over the holidays, but each year there are several hundred service members and trainees who, for a variety of reasons, are unable to go home.
This year, Springfield community leaders have taken the initiative to sponsor special activities in our community at no cost for these servicemembers, but we need your help to cover travel costs and other expenses to bring these servicemembers to Springfield — to their “home for the holidays!”
United Way of the Ozarks is collecting donations through CauseMomentum to help give these servicemembers an unforgettable holiday.
Tentative Details
Mayor Ken McClure plans to proclaim Springfield, Mo., as a “Home for the Holiday” for these service members and trainees on Dec. 23, 2019.
The City of Springfield has partnered with Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, Wonders of Wildlife National Museum & Aquarium, Corwin Automotive Group, Andy B's, and other partners to make this a day these soldiers will never forget.
The day will begin with a Welcome Home Rally at a location to be disclosed at a later date and end with a “Taste of Springfield” dinner and “Home for the Holiday” Musical Show.

About United Way of the Ozarks
The United Way of the Ozarks works every day to improve lives in our community by uniting support. We invest in programs that form a safety net for families experiencing challenges and focus on initiatives that work "upstream" to reduce poverty.
Our focus is on building "community ownership"- we want every citizen to feel ownership of their community and welcome opportunities to make a difference.
To accomplish our mission and change our world, United Way of the Ozarks partners with and provides funding to 22 non-profits to "move the needle" on education, health, and financial stability within our community.
United Way of the Ozarks steps in where there are gaps and coordinates responses to the most urgent needs. As the pandemic wanes and we return to the next normal, the needs of those most vulnerable will continue and expand. United Way of the Ozarks will be here to help. Join us in being a community owner by helping raise support and awareness for the United Way of the Ozarks.
