Project Overview
RISE Coalition is leading the way with new services and resources in the fight against human trafficking. The Coalition began in 2010 by bringing experts to the region to educate law enforcement on the various types of human trafficking. In addition, the Coalition began public awareness campaigns to shed light on this crime.
Since that time, the Coalition has added direct victim services. Law enforcement officers call RISE when they recover a trafficking victim. RISE responds by providing a "GO Bag" filled with necessities that we sometimes take for granted. There is a change of clothes, toiletries, snacks, etc. It helps provide some comfort for those caught in crisis.
Through a partnership with Choices Medical, we also provide medical services for the (predominantly) women that we meet with. By providing safety and assuring them of their health, we can begin to help create a plan for getting these women to safety.
Providing safety can sometimes include temporary, emergency lodging. We can also provide transportation to a safe place. Transportation has included commercial airlines, private flights, car or bus rides. We also provide for meals along the way.
Since our direct victim services began in 2016, the cost of our services provided have totaled $58,344. That is represented by donations from so many who have come alongside us to provide safety and comfort to these women, at a time when they need it most. Our services provide hope for a future outside of the pain they have experienced.
Our Give Carthage Day in 2020 is dedicated to the Human Trafficking Outreach. We are so proud of how far we have come in the past 10 years. We are prouder still of the direct impact we have made in the lives of 142 people we have served.
