Project Overview

He can have a brighter future. Cameron loves to take pictures. He has an old, hand-me-down camera that he brings everywhere he goes. He is a bright, gregarious, 10-year-old boy who loves dinosaurs and Star Wars.

Like so many children across the country, Cameron’s parents are struggling with addiction. After a painful few years of watching them spiral downward and lose the ability to care for him, he’s now in a strange place - foster care.

Cameron needs an advocate to show him care and compassion and to fight for his best interests while his parents get the help they need so he can safely return home. A CASA volunteer takes the time to get to know the child. To know the family. To learn what’s possible and what Cameron needs to heal. A CASA volunteer will be Cameron’s champion, asking tough questions and holding his parents—and the system—accountable.

We’re taking a stand for Cameron and every kid like him. We believe every child facing an uncertain future deserves to thrive.

You can make a meaningful and lasting impact on children like Cameron. We are working to make sure every child in our community who has experienced abuse or neglect has a caring adult who will be there for them during this tough time, no matter what.

Lift Up a Child's Voice . . . A Child's LIfe!  Help give children like Cameron the gift of a CASA volunteer. Because of you, he can thrive.

CASA has been in Greene County for nearly 30 years.  We are excited that we will now be expanding to serve children in Christian County also!  Learn more about CASA and the children like Cameron who need the help from the community to be successful.  Visit www.CASAswmo.org.

About CASA of Southwest Missouri (Springfield)

As Court Appointed Special Advocates, CASA of Southwest Missouri advocates for the best interests of abused and neglected children in Family Court by recruiting and training community volunteers. When a CASA volunteer is appointed to a child's case, the CASA Volunteer takes the time to find out as much as possible about that child.  CASA Volunteers review records, interview family, relatives, teachers, service providers, and - most important - the child.  These volunteers then appear in court, alongside attorneys and caseworkers, to recommend to a judge what's best for that child's future.  We know that a child who is represented by a CASA volunteer stands a better chance of living in a safe, permanent home. Independent research has demonstrated that children with a CASA volunteer are substantially less likely to spend time in long-term foster care and less likely to reenter care.
