Investing in the Bettinas of our Community!

Bettina - "I stopped having any hopes, dreams or goals. I was accepted in the Building Bridges program, not sure what to expect, but I went to class, put in the work, and it was sometimes painful and uncomfortable but I never gave up. Today I have hopes, dreams, goals, and healthy relationships with some amazing people."

Project Overview

Our project is to provide funding for class participants like Bettina to attend a weekly class to learn the tools they need to better their lives, achieve their goals, and fulfill their dreams.  Each person's needs are different - some are to get custody of chidren, to be able to afford a home of their own, to raise their family, to get an education, to make a better life for themselves.

Class participants (leaders) commit to an 18 week program in the beginning, two hours per week plus homework assignments.  It's an intense time of learning and accepting themselves, delving into their situations, and learning about health, finances, goals, community involvement, and healthy relationships.

About Building Bridges Joplin

Building Bridges’s mission is to inspire and equip families and communities to resolve poverty and thrive. We believe that responsibility for both poverty and prosperity rests not only in the hands of individuals, but also with societies, institutions, and communities. Our work is to engage people and organizations in the community to help end poverty.

Since 2013, Building Bridges, formerly Circles Joplin, has worked to address poverty by providing education, tools, and relationships so participants may develop skills to achieve long-term self-sufficiency. Our approach combines several disciplines including: community organizing, grassroots leadership, SMART goal setting, financial literacy, peer-to-peer counseling and learning, and child/youth development.
