Project Overview
Kindness Empowers Youth is an educational nonprofit with the goal of empowering young students with an increased emotional intelligence and self-concept while building a sense of community and belonging in all learning environments.
The KEY curriculum combines comprehensive lesson plans, an interactive video game and an engaging secret agent theme to teach protective factors that are essential to social and emotional development. With both physical and digital activity options, KEY is a tool that can be utilized in the classroom and at home.
With the help of experts in child psychology and elementary education, we have designed a comprehensive, research-based approach that engages, educates and empowers students in third and fourth grade.
Where Your Contributions Will Go
We hope to provide KEY Agent Starter Kit boxes complete with all of our materials to parents, teachers, and counselors across Missouri, but we can’t do it alone. We need your help to bring our mission to life.
Your contributions will allow us to conduct additional research and product testing to improve the quality of our educational materials and develop a catalogue of lesson plans covering topics from self-esteem to quality relationships in addition to further developing our online game. With your support, we can help students across Missouri and beyond “unlock their character.”

About KEY
KEY was started by a group of Missouri State University students and alumni with a passion for empowering the next generation of leaders. We recognize the importance of supporting young students in all areas of development and want to provide the necessary tools for parents and educators to do just that. The KEY program was originally created as part of the 2020 Peer-to-Peer Protective Project sponsored by The McCain Institute. KEY won first place in this national competition.
