Project Overview

This has been a challenging year.
Arts organizations across the world are still fighting for their lives, and Springfield Regional Opera has been doing its part to ensure Springfield will continue to enjoy the rich cultural landscape we all treasure.
Music is universal, and the absence of public performances has been difficult and isolating. We can't wait to perform for you again, and we're not simply going to emerge sleepily from hibernation.  Instead, we've rescheduled our delayed performances of the great Turandot, Puccini's spectacular final opera and the debut of international opera star Michael Spyres in the timeless Pagliacci.  We're also planning to perform the Springfield premiere of the beautiful l'Orfeo by Monteverdi, widely considered to be the first great opera--and that's just the beginning.
At SRO, we’re very fortunate to have a dedicated board, staff, and artists who have worked tirelessly to enable us to pivot with current health trends, conserve our resources, and proceed with events appropriate for the times.

Now, we need your support to help us return to the stage. Opera with a vengeance!

About Springfield Regional Opera

Founded in 1979, Springfield Regional Opera celebrated its 40th season in 2020.  Now comprising a professional orchestra, regionally and nationally acclaimed artists, and a growing artistic and administrative staff, SRO brings world class opera to the Ozark Plateau including southern Missouri and northwest Arkansas.

We strive to:

  • Foster a greater understanding of, and appreciation for opera;
  • Provide a wide range of repertoire to engage both existing and emerging audiences;
  • Present opera in a variety of settings and make it accessible to as wide a segment of the community as possible;
  • Look for collaborations that provide access, outreach, and education for people of all ages and cultural backgrounds in our diverse community.
