The History Museum on the Square collects, preserves, interprets and exhibits historical and cultural artifacts, written materials, graphics and publications of Springfield, Greene County and the surrounding Missouri Ozarks. Located on historic Route 66, our historic Park Central Square buildings are being restored to preserve the rich history of our city.
This summer, we will have an outstanding group of interns who are taking on a large digitization project by scanning the photographs and documents in our collection. We are in need of one additional scanner and two additional computers to facilitate this project. The total cost of equipment is $4,763. Please help us preserve the past!
The History Museum on the Square began in 1975 as a part of the bicentennial celebration. Since its beginnings in a small storefront on College Street it has grown into a repository for many significant items from the history of the area. The collections currently house more than fifty thousand photographs and documents and over one hundred thousand items including furniture, textiles and household goods.
