Project 2021

Although COVID 19 has restricted a lot of opportunities for regional artists, performers, and musicians, Project 2021 plans to reunite talent to a variety of platforms in Carthage. Project 2021 will raise funds to pay talent to perform in a variety of venues including elder care facilities, local stages, and virtual platforms.

Project Overview

Project 2021 intends to launch new levels of communication to promote the development of performance and visual art opportunities in Carthage. The purpose of the Carthage Council on the Arts, as defined in the bylaws state that "Carthage Council on the Arts shall be charitable, educational, cultural, and civic, including the promotion, encouragement, and development of all of the Performing and Fine Arts; encouragement and development of the cultural and educational activities of the City of Carthage, Missouri, and the surrounding area; and the cultivation and advancement of community and public interest, appreciation and participation in or with reference to such objectives."

Project 2021 of the Carthage Council on the Arts aims to create new levels of promotion and development of cultural opportunities in Carthage by creating calendars, newsletters, and contact listings for artists and performers in the region to share with the community. All resources collected by Carthage Council on the Arts will be shared with individuals, churches, organizations, and groups in the region who may be interested in cultural activities in Carthage.

Furthermore, funding of Project 2021 will directly support artists and performers who have been affected by changes in the way we gather since COVID 19. Carthage Council on the Arts will exclusively use regional creative talent in 2021 to produce cultural events in Carthage. Events scheduled in Carthage include performances in local elder care facilities such as Spring River Christian Village, Oak Pointe Assisted Living and other facilities as safe and appropriate. Carthage Concerts in the Park are scheduled in June, July, and August. Christmas in Carthage hopes to provide singing talent and walking Christmas characters throughout the square during the Christmas Parade. Additional efforts include the support of additional art-associated organizations as appropriate and scholarships to local students.

About Carthage Council on the Arts

Carthage Council on Arts is a nonprofit organization supporting the performing and visual arts in Carthage, Missouri. Some of the projects supported include Summer Concerts in Central Park, Art.A.Fair Carthage on the Historic Carthage Square, Summer Camp Scholarships for artCentral, Art Feeds Carthage, the Carthage chapter of Music Clubs of America, and Stone's Throw Dinner Theatre on Historic Route 66.

CCA was organized in 1981 to serve the Carthage community by providing free access to art exhibits and classes, music and theater performances, and related cultural experiences utilizing area venues to present events. These events are tailored for adults and children with an occasional focus on senior adults. In 2018, CCA presented forty-five public programs including performances in collaboration with six area arts organizations. An estimated attendance count for all CCA events was 3,600 (in a community of approximately 14,000). In addition, each year CCA provides college scholarships to two area high school students (one from Carthage High School and one from Sarcoxie High School) and provides matching funds to another local arts organization that provides an additional Carthage High School student college scholarship.

The purpose of the CCA shall be charitable, educational, cultural and civic, including the promotion, encouragement and development of all of the Performing and Fine Arts; encouragement and development of the cultural and educational activities of the City of Carthage, Missouri, and the surrounding area; and the cultivation and advancement of community and public interest, appreciation and participation in or with reference to such objectives."
