"Some Enchanted Evening"
Reconnecting Memories Through Music and Dance
"Some enchanted evening, you may see a stranger,
You may see a stranger across a crowded room,
And somehow you know, you know even then,
That somehow you'll see here again and again."
Has the experience of watching a loved one fade away due to the debilitating disease of Alzheimer's affected you or someone you know? Imagine the heartache of this experience- your loved one struggling with recollection of your relationship...
Music Therapy of the Ozarks would like to provide a special opportunity for those in our community who struggle with the heartbreaking effects of Alzheimer's disease, or other types of dementia, to reconnect with loved ones through music and dancing classes.
Funds raised will provide an opportunity for individuals and caregivers to attend an 8-week class with focus on therapeutic singing and dancing. The class will then culminate in a special evening in which individuals and caregivers will be treated to a wonderful dinner and dancing event, with a live big band to dance the evening away! This event will take place this fall in the months of September and October.
"Some enchanted evening, someone may be laughing,
You may hear her laughing across a crowded room,
And night after night, as strange as it seems,
The sound of her laughter will sing in your dreams."
Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia currently affect close to 35 million people worldwide. "Alzheimer's disease is a progressive disease that destroys memory and other important mental functions.” (1) Research has demonstrated that individuals with Alzheimer’s and related disorders can reconnect memories and experience bonding through music of their past. “Emerging evidence shows that music-based interventions may have a protective effect on the brain in people with dementia. There is also evidence that doing activities that engage the brain through music is beneficial.” (2)
"Some enchanted evening, when you find your true love,
When you hear her call you across a crowded room,
Then fly to her side and make her your own,
Once you have found her, never let her go."
