Project Overview

"The veterans of our military services have put their lives on the line to protect the freedoms that we enjoy. They have dedicated their lives to their country and deserve to be recognized for their commitment." —Judd Gregg

An Opportunity

The City of Stockton and its park board members definitely believe in Mr. Gregg's statement and when the opportunity presented itself, they asked local veteran groups to join the cause and began plans to establish an area within Stockton City Park to honor and remember our veterans.

The Centerpiece

The City of Stockton was fortunate to host the traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall That Heals in May 2017. In 2019, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund bestowed an incredible honor on the City of Stockton by donating a panel from that wall, as it was decommissioned to make room for a new traveling Wall That Heals. The panel donated includes 38 names of Missouri Vietnam Veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Stockton, and Cedar County, lost three of its own in the Vietnam War.

The Vision

A design plan is in the works to incorporate this panel of the wall in a section of the city park to memorialize and honor the veterans of our community. The graphic shown in this presentation is only one representation of what the park could look like. The area to be used in Stockton City Park is large enough to expand to incorporate other elements.

The vision is for the panel of the wall to be displayed surrounded by flags and emblems representing each branch of service, a POW/MIA and Purple Heart memorial and an area of personalized paver bricks to remember special veterans or to offer a generic salute to the military. Stone benches for seating will surround the brick area. The pavers are expected to be placed in front of The Wall That Heals panel, and hopefully in the middle of the brick area, a beautiful water feature or metal sculpted fire pit can be a part of the park design.

How Can You Be A Part of This Project?

There are several ways to lend your help to see this project through to completion.

1. City park funds are limited. Donations will be the sole source of funding to build this project. Any amount would be useful and greatly appreciated. The beauty of the project only is limited by the amount of funds we can raise.

2. Order a personalized paver brick. For $50, you can order an engraved paver brick to memorialize your special veteran or branch of service. Bricks can be personalized with three lines of text with 20 characters each. Service emblems can be included but cuts down text to 12 characters per line.

Go to:

From the drop-down menu on that page, navigate to brick orders and following instructions.

3. If you are a business or corporation, we invite financial or in-kind participation. Donations of building materials, flag poles, flags, stone benches or a water feature all would be welcome.

4. If you would like to memorialize your special veteran in a grander fashion, you can earmark your  donation for a stone bench, any piece of infrastructure (such as flag poles) or site preparation for the park.
