Project Overview

The Boys & Girls Club of Southwest Missouri (BGCSWMO) is doing whatever it takes to keep our doors open for children and families during COVID-19.

We have enhanced our cleaning procedures to ensure the safety of all employees and clients.  As youth enter the Boys & Girls Club, their temperature is taken using a contactless thermometer.  We ask that all attendees wear a mask (cloth, sewn, or neck gaiter).  If someone shows up to the Club without a mask, we will provide one during the check-in process.  Mask can also be retrieved at any time if it is lost or damaged during the program.

Another safety measure we have implemented at the Club is the enhanced cleaning.  Disinfecting wipes and sanitations stations are located on the counter in each room.  Throughout the day, staff constantly clean programming rooms and supplies.

After each rotation, staff wipe down the tables and equipment so that it is ready for the next group of kids.  At the end of each day, staff thoroughly clean their assigned area(s).  All floors are mopped; tables, equipment, and door handles are wiped; and bathrooms are cleaned.

Furthermore, children are encouraged to wash their hands more frequently and prior to eating all meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack) served at the Club.

During the Summer Program, we will implement Summer Brain Game.  Summer Brain Gain helps prevent youth from falling behind and losing academic skills while school is out.

About Boys and Girls Clubs of Southwest Missouri (Joplin Area)

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Missouri has served the Joplin community since 1957.  We provide a safe, nurturing and caring environment for youth ages 6-18 through after school and summer programs.

All members receive help completing homework, access to a fully-equipped computer lab, gym and recreation time, and the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with professional staff and other Club members.  Each of our members participates in drug and alcohol prevention programs that help them realize their worth and potential in life.  We provide a fully balanced meal every evening to all of our members and breakfast, lunch, and a snack throughout the summer program.  We use vans to pick-up students from local elementary schools and to transport youth on fieldtrips.  Our after school program costs a mere $25.00 per semester or $50.00 for the entire school year. Our summer program runs nine weeks and costs $270.00 per child.

We offer programs in the five core areas of: Character & Leadership, Education & Career, Health & Life Skills, The Arts, and Sports, Fitness, & Recreation.
