About Carthage Council on the Arts
Carthage Council on Arts is a nonprofit organization supporting the performing and visual arts in Carthage, Missouri. Some of the projects supported include Summer Concerts in Central Park, Art.A.Fair Carthage on the Historic Carthage Square, Summer Camp Scholarships for artCentral, Art Feeds Carthage, the Carthage chapter of Music Clubs of America, and Stone's Throw Dinner Theatre on Historic Route 66.
CCA was organized in 1981 to serve the Carthage community by providing free access to art exhibits and classes, music and theater performances, and related cultural experiences utilizing area venues to present events. These events are tailored for adults and children with an occasional focus on senior adults. In 2019, CCA presented forty-five public programs including performances in collaboration with six area arts organizations. An estimated attendance count for all CCA events was 3,600 (in a community of approximately 14,000). In addition, each year CCA provides college scholarships to two area high school students (one from Carthage High School and one from Sarcoxie High School) and provides matching funds to another local arts organization that provides an additional Carthage High School student college scholarship.
The purpose of the CCA shall be charitable, educational, cultural and civic, including the promotion, encouragement and development of all of the Performing and Fine Arts; encouragement and development of the cultural and educational activities of the City of Carthage, Missouri, and the surrounding area; and the cultivation and advancement of community and public interest, appreciation and participation in or with reference to such objectives."
